frequently asked questions:

What is the parking availability for drop off and pick up? What is the drop off and pick up procedure?

The Creative Oasis is located next to the Pugh Street parking garage, and we do validate parking (a $.75 voucher) for patrons. Parking for less than ten minutes is free. Many caregivers choose to simply hold in Humes Alley for drop-off/pick-up; we cannot, however, for legal reasons, recommend this course of action.

Children should be dropped off no earlier than 8am/10am/12am (depending on when camps being) and picked up no later than 20 minutes after the camp is scheduled to conclude. By special arrangement, children may be dropped off/picked up earlier, but please make us aware well in advance of such a need.

The Creative Oasis will make every effort to accommodate your scheduling needs: please notify instructors if someone other than the primary caregiver(s) will be picking up the child. For the everyone's safety, campers must be signed in and checked out. Since campers must finish cleaning their activity areas before leaving, please notify us at the beginning of the day if campers must leave early.

Do not block instructor parking spots during drop-off. This delays our ability to serve all our patrons punctually. Patrons who refuse to abide by these and other posted policies will be denied service. Back to Top...

Can you accommodate special needs children?

The Creative Oasis has always made an effort to accommodate special needs children, and has experience doing so. Whenever possible, we attempt to mainstream high functioning special needs and handi-capable individuals in our programming, but we have also added camps specifically for special needs students. In order to ensure the highest quality of service to all our patrons, we must insist that special needs (including relevant medical conditions and psychological/behavioral issues) be disclosed honestly at the time of registration, and failure to do so will be construed as breach of contract. Please contact us at 814.237.1982 to answer your questions. Back to Top...

Can I enroll for a day/week?

Providing there is space availability, we have made provisions to enroll children for single weeks of two week camps or fragments of a week. These rates are published on the specific camp pages, and no discounts apply to such enrollments. However, youth and pre-teen camps ceramic camps are two weeks long for a reason: we use the weekend between the camps to bisque fire the pottery so that it may be glazed during the second week. If a child is enrolled in only the first week of a two week camp, their pottery will remain unglazed, unless they are also enrolled for a glazing day.  Back to Top...

When does outdoor break fall?

Outdoor breaks generally fall in the middle of each half day, and vary in length depending on whether a museum field trip, outdoor art project, or other supervised activity is scheduled. If contacted in advance, we can schedule your child to be at the studio at a specific time for pick up.  Back to Top...

What will my youngster need to bring for camps/Are there "material fees" for camps?

There are no "hidden fees" for Creative Oasis camps. Occasionally, we ask campers/parents to bring common items from home (such as paper towel rolls or old t-shirts) but all art supplies that campers need to complete projects are provided. In the Teen Fine Arts Series, certain projects that the camper chooses may require additional materials, but this is a matter of individual choice and availability.

All Campers should wear comfortable, older clothes to camp. Parents should pack appropriate snacks (or, on field trip days, money for a snack) and lunch (full day campers) or make special arrangements with staff to meet these needs. Back to Top...

A partial refund (total-deposit) minus processing fee will be available for cancellations less than two weeks before the beginning of camps.

If a refund must be issued once within three days of a camp's start (such as for family emergency), the partial refund mentioned above will be pro-rated.

Refunds will be issued by check/credit card within three weeks.

How do you deal with disciplinary problems?

We have a wealth of experience dealing with children at all levels and can generally accommodate individual needs. The Creative Oasis does not practice any type of corporal punishment, and believe the decision to administer this type of punishment resides with individual parent or guardians. When disciplinary problems arise, our policy is to attempt to mediate conflict through direct intervention.

  • Warning. The camper receives an oral warning of that their behavior is unsatisfactory, and (if possible) is asked to rectify the situation.

  • Time Out. If behavioral issues persist, the camper will be removed from interaction from the other campers until they have a chance to "calm down."

  • Call to caregivers. If behavioral issues warrant it in severity or recurrence, the primary caregiver will be contacted and asked to pick the child up for the day. Our responsibility is to ensure the highest quality of service to all our campers, and severe disruption on the part of a single camper can not be tolerated.

In order to ensure the highest quality of service to all our patrons, we must insist that severe and/or recurring behavioral issues (including relevant medical conditions and psychological/behavioral issues) be disclosed honestly at the time of registration, and failure to do so will be construed as breach of contract. Campers who demonstrate repeated disruptive issues that we feel are detrimental and/or dangerous will be expelled.

The Creative Oasis requires that all patrons demonstrate civility and mutual respect, and this policy extends to caregivers as well. Just as we make every effort to please you and your camper, we ask that you treat all staff and instructors in a polite and respectful and non-disruptive manner. Back to Top...
